Our Consulting Methodology
A structured, phased approach to household financial planning that adapts to the real rhythm of family life in Spain.
Financial planning that reflects how families actually live
Most household budgeting approaches focus on monthly income and expenses. This works for routine spending, but it misses the larger picture of how a family's financial year actually unfolds.
At Fundinorio, we start from the annual view. We map the predictable financial peaks and troughs of the year, then work backwards to create monthly actions that prevent those peaks from becoming crises.
Our methodology draws on principles from household economics, behavioural finance, and practical family planning. It is designed to be understandable and actionable for families without a financial background.
A four-phase consulting process
Each phase builds on the previous one. Together they create a complete picture of the household's financial situation and a practical roadmap for the year ahead.
Discovery: Understanding the Household
The first phase is about listening and learning. We gather a complete picture of the household's income sources, regular commitments, and existing spending habits. This phase does not involve any judgement about past decisions. It is purely about building an accurate baseline.
We use structured questions to surface information that families often haven't considered together, such as the full annual cost of each child's schooling or the true total spent on celebrations over the previous year.
Mapping: The Annual Financial Calendar
In the second phase, we translate the information gathered into an annual financial calendar. This visual tool shows, month by month, where the significant spending events fall throughout the year. September's back-to-school surge, the summer holiday in July or August, Christmas spending in December, and any upcoming celebrations all appear together in context.
Seeing the full year at once is often the first time a family has a clear picture of why certain months feel financially strained and others feel comfortable.
Planning: Building the Structured Budget
With the annual map in place, we move into structured planning. For each identified spending peak, we calculate the required savings rate in the months leading up to it. This transforms a lump-sum expense into a manageable monthly contribution.
We also work through trade-off conversations with families. Sometimes the full cost of a planned event is not compatible with other priorities, and these conversations help families make informed choices rather than discovering the conflict in the moment.
Review: Ongoing Adjustment and Support
A budget plan is a living document. Life changes — a new job, an unexpected expense, a child moving to a different school — and the plan needs to adapt. In the review phase, we schedule regular check-in sessions to assess how the plan is tracking and make adjustments where necessary.
We also use the review phase to introduce families to our support group, where they can connect with others navigating similar financial planning challenges throughout the year.
What guides our work
Transparency over complexity
Financial plans work when families understand them. We present information clearly and avoid jargon, ensuring every household member can engage with the plan.
Balanced trade-offs
Every financial decision involves a trade-off. We help families understand the options available and the implications of each choice, without advocating for any particular path.
Realistic expectations
Plans that are too ambitious fail quickly. We build budgets that are honest about what is achievable given the household's actual resources and priorities.
Adaptability built in
Rather than rigid plans, we create frameworks with built-in flexibility. When circumstances change, the framework guides the adjustment rather than requiring a complete restart.
